Matthew 6:33–34 (World English Bible)

33 But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.

34 Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.

Learning to Let Go and Let God

For a long time, I was a worrier. I worried about things I couldn’t change, things that hadn’t happened yet, and sometimes things that probably never would. My mind could take the smallest concern and turn it into a hundred different possibilities. I spent so much time thinking about what could go wrong that I sometimes forgot to appreciate everything that was going right. And let me tell you, carrying around all that worry is exhausting.

But somewhere along the way, I began learning something that has changed the way I look at life. I don’t have to carry everything. God never asked me to.

Matthew 6:33–34 reminds us to seek God first and stop allowing tomorrow’s worries to steal today’s peace. That sounds so simple, doesn’t it? But when you’ve spent years worrying, learning to let go doesn’t always come naturally.

For me, it has been a journey of learning to trust God more and my own understanding a little less. And the more I lean on Him, the more I notice something beautiful happening. The stress that once felt so heavy begins to melt away. Not because every problem has disappeared or life has suddenly become perfect, but because I’ve learned that I don’t have to face any of it alone. There is such a wonderful peace in knowing that God is already taking care of things I haven’t even encountered yet.

One Stitch at a Time

If you’ve ever worked on a crochet project, you know that you can’t finish the whole thing at once. You start with one stitch, then another, and another. Sometimes you lose count. Sometimes you make a mistake and have to pull out a few rows. Sometimes you look at everything you still have left to do and wonder if you’ll ever finish. But you keep going, one stitch at a time.

I’ve come to realize that life is a lot like that. So often, we want to see the entire pattern. We want to know how everything is going to turn out before we’re willing to relax and enjoy where we are. But God doesn’t always show us the finished picture. Sometimes He simply asks us to trust Him with the next stitch. And that’s enough. We don’t have to know what next week, next month, or next year will bring. We just have to trust the One who already knows.

Finding Peace in His Promises

I won’t pretend that I never worry anymore. I’m human, and there are still moments when my thoughts start running ahead of me. But the difference now is that I recognize when I’m trying to carry something that belongs in God’s hands.

Instead of sitting with that worry and letting it grow, I’m learning to turn to Him. Sometimes that means stopping what I’m doing and praying. Sometimes it’s opening my Bible. And sometimes it’s simply whispering, “Lord, I trust You,” and reminding myself that He is in control. And every time I truly surrender those worries to Him, I feel that familiar heaviness begin to lift.

There’s a peace that comes from trusting God that I can’t quite put into words. It’s not the absence of problems. It’s the comfort of knowing Who is walking beside me through them.

I spent so many years worrying about tomorrow that I wish I had understood sooner how much peace there is in simply trusting Him today. But maybe that’s part of growing in faith. We learn. We stumble. We pray. And little by little, we discover just how faithful He has always been.

A Little Something to Carry Into Your Week

If you’re carrying worries today, I want to encourage you to give them to God. Whatever is weighing on your heart, whatever uncertainty you’re facing, whatever tomorrow has you feeling anxious about—you don’t have to figure it all out right now.

Take a moment to be still. Talk to Him. Trust that He hears you, that He loves you, and that He’s working even when you can’t see it.

And remember: You don’t have to finish the whole blanket today. Just take the next stitch.

God has given us today. Let’s not miss its blessings because we’re too busy worrying about tomorrow.

Until next Sunday, may your stitches be steady, your worries be few, and your heart find rest in the One who holds tomorrow.

Stitched together by faith, wrapped in grace. ♡
